Mission

The NRH stroke rehabilitation program is designed to provide physical and cognitive rehabilitation for the stroke patient regardless of the cause of the stroke.

Program Features

The team members of the NRH stroke program have developed a special focus on stroke rehabilitation and an interest in working with older people in need of their services, Tailored to the stroke survivor aged 65 and older, this program provides specialized treatment in areas such as functional mobility, swallowing, personal care and hygiene, cognitive/perceptual retraining, communication, medication teaching, nutrition, lifestyle and stroke risk management, stroke education, social and community reentry, leisure interest and skill development, supportive counseling, and pastoral care, as needed

In addition to the expert rehabilitative services provided by the stroke rehabilitation team, specialized medical consultation is available to the stroke patient in such disciplines as rehabilitative neurology, neuro-opthalmology, psychology, neuropsychology, internal medicine/cardiology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, and urology, among others.

Admission

Most stroke survivors are good candidates for rehabilitation services. We recommend that survivors, along with family members, discuss rehabilitative options with a social worker to learn more about what level of rehabilitative care may be beneficial to them.
